Your files stay on your device
This tool runs entirely in your browser. What you paste is processed on your device and is never sent to a server, so it is safe to use with tokens, keys and unpublished text.
How it works
- Open the .srt file in any text editor, copy everything and paste it into the input box.
- The result appears as you type. The tool adds the WEBVTT header, swaps the comma in timestamps for a dot and keeps each cue's text and order.
- Check the output. The SRT cue numbers are left out, because cue identifiers are optional in VTT; a cue named with words rather than a number keeps its name. The order and the timings stay the same.
- Copy the result or download it as a .vtt file and reference it from a <track> element or upload it to your video platform.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the difference between SRT and VTT?
- Both are plain-text subtitle formats with numbered cues. VTT (WebVTT) starts with a WEBVTT header line, uses a dot instead of a comma before milliseconds (00:00:01.000), and supports styling, positioning and voice tags. SRT is older and widely supported by desktop players; VTT is what HTML5 video and web players require.
- Is my subtitle file uploaded?
- No. The conversion is done by JavaScript running in the page. The text never leaves your device, and the tool works offline.
- Are cue numbers kept?
- No. Cue identifiers are optional in WebVTT, so the SRT numbers are left out and each cue starts with its timing line. An identifier that is a name rather than a number, such as “intro”, is kept. The order and the number of cues do not change.
- What about formatting tags like <i> and <b>?
- Basic HTML-style tags used in SRT, such as <i>, <b> and <u>, are valid in VTT and are kept. Font colour tags from SRT are not part of WebVTT and are passed through unchanged; most players simply ignore them.
- What are the free limits?
- The free plan allows 5 runs per day. Pro removes this limit.
