How it works
- Add the recording — a long MP3, WAV or FLAC, or a video whose sound you want cut up.
- Set how long a gap has to be before it counts as a break. Two seconds suits songs; half a second suits speech.
- Throw away the short pieces so a cough or a chair scraping does not become a track of its own.
- Download the pieces, numbered in order.
Frequently asked questions
- How is this different from cutting the silence out?
- The silence cutter joins what is left into one shorter file. This writes each stretch out as a file of its own, numbered in order, and leaves the gaps where they were.
- It split in the middle of a sentence. What should I change?
- Raise the length of silence needed — a speaker pausing for breath is often quiet for a second. Lowering the threshold to −50 dB also helps in a quiet room.
- How many pieces can it make?
- Up to two hundred from one file. If you are getting hundreds, the gap setting is too short for the material.
- Is my recording uploaded?
- No. It is decoded, split and re-encoded in your browser.
