How it works

Frequently asked questions
- Does the cut land exactly where I asked?
- Yes, sample for sample. Sound has no keyframes, so there is nothing to round to — which is the difference between this and cutting video, where a decoder can only start at a keyframe and a cut has to be re-encoded from the one before it.
- How do I write the times?
- Either as seconds (90) or as minutes and seconds (1:30). Both mean the same place. If the end is past the end of the recording it simply runs to the finish.
- Does trimming lose quality?
- Saving as WAV loses nothing at all. MP3 and M4A are re-encoded, so a file that was already compressed is compressed a second time — audible only if you go to a low bit rate. Keep the bit rate at or above the original's and it will be hard to tell.
- Can I take a piece out of the middle instead?
- Not in one pass — this keeps one stretch and drops the rest. To cut a middle section out, trim twice and keep both ends.
- Is my recording uploaded?
- No. Your browser decodes it, the piece is cut and written back on your device, and nothing is sent anywhere. Free runs allow 150 MB per file and 10 runs per day.
