How it works
- Drop a sound file or an MP4 video.
- Set what counts as silence and how long a gap has to be before it is cut.
- Leave a little at each end so speech is not clipped — 0.15 seconds sounds natural.
- Press Cut the silences and download. A video comes back as MP4 with the picture and sound still together.
Frequently asked questions
- Does it cut words off?
- Not with a little padding, which is on by default: the cut starts a moment after the speech stops and ends a moment before it starts again. If it sounds hurried, give it more.
- Why is my recording cut in the wrong places?
- Probably the threshold. A noisy room never falls to −50 dB, so nothing is cut; a very clean recording with quiet breathing may need −50 rather than −40. Try one step either way.
- Does the video stay in sync?
- Yes. The frames inside a cut are left out and the timestamps are closed up, and the sound is rebuilt from the same list of kept stretches, so picture and sound are cut at exactly the same points.
- Is anything uploaded?
- No. It all happens in your browser, which is also why a long video takes a while.
