Example
Example: three one-minute dashcam clips joined into one video for an insurance claim
A driver needs to send the insurer the three minutes before and after a collision. The dashcam saved them as one-minute files: 20260314_081500.MP4, 20260314_081600.MP4 and 20260314_081700.MP4, Full HD with sound, about 110 MB each — under the free 150 MB per clip.
- Add the three files and put them in time order (the names already sort that way).
- Press Merge videos. All three come from the same camera with the same settings, so the frames are copied end to end: nothing is re-encoded and it takes about as long as reading the files.
- If one clip had been recorded with the microphone off, the merge would stop and name it: a clip without sound among clips with it would put the sound out of step.
One file, 20260314_081500-joined.mp4, three minutes long, in the dashcam’s own quality and with no watermark. Had a phone clip been added, it would be re-encoded to the first clip’s size, 1920 × 1080, with black bars if it was upright.
How it works
- Add the MP4 files and drag them into the order you want.
- Matching clips are joined as they are; if one differs, all are re-encoded to the size of the first. The sound is copied as it is, so every clip needs the same kind of sound, or none.
- Download the single MP4.
Frequently asked questions
- Does merging MP4 files lose quality?
- Not when the clips come from the same camera or phone with the same settings: they are joined without re-encoding, bit for bit. If any clip differs, they are all re-encoded once, to the size of the first.
- Can I merge MP4 with MOV or other formats?
- MP4, MOV and M4V, in any mix: if any clip differs from the first, all are re-encoded to its size. The sound is copied, not converted, so every clip needs the same kind of sound (AAC at one sample rate) or none. AVI, MKV and WebM are not taken — convert them to MP4 first.
- Is there a size limit?
- The free plan joins up to 10 clips of 150 MB each, 5 times a day; Pro removes these limits. Everything is processed on your device, so a large merge needs enough memory.
- Is there a watermark?
- No watermark on the video, free or paid.
- Why does it say one clip has no sound?
- Because the others have sound, and joining a silent clip between them would push the sound out of step with the picture. Either take the sound out of all of them first (the remove-audio tool) or join only the clips that have sound.
- Are my videos uploaded?
- No. The MP4s are joined in your browser and never leave your device.
