How it works
- Add an MP4 or a MOV.
- Choose how to cut it: into so many equal parts, into pieces of a fixed length, or at the exact times you type.
- Leave the size alone to keep the original, or drop it to 720p if the pieces are going somewhere with an upload limit.
- Press split. Each piece downloads as its own file, numbered in order.
Frequently asked questions
- How many pieces can I get?
- Fifty. Beyond that the browser is holding more video in memory than it can comfortably manage, and you are better off splitting in two passes.
- Are the cuts exact?
- Yes to within a frame. The video is decoded and encoded again rather than copied, so a cut can land anywhere rather than only on a keyframe — the trade is that it takes longer than a copy would.
- Why are the pieces a different size from the original?
- Because they are encoded again. The bitrate is chosen from the original so the result looks the same, but the numbers will not match exactly. Keeping the original size avoids any scaling on top of that.
- Is my video uploaded?
- No. It is decoded and encoded by your own browser, and never leaves your computer.
