A designer exported an app icon as icon.jpg, 1024 × 1024 pixels on a solid blue background, and the app store listing asks for a 1024 × 1024 PNG. Nothing to set: PNG keeps the pixels as they are.
- Drop icon.jpg and press Convert to PNG: it comes back as icon.png, still 1024 × 1024 pixels.
- The PNG is fully opaque, like the JPG: the blue background stays.
- Any JPG artefacts in the icon stay too. If they show, export again from the design file at a high quality.

Frequently asked questions
- Why would I convert JPG to PNG?
- Some tools only accept PNG: app icon generators, certain print-on-demand services, game engines and design templates. PNG is also the right format before repeated editing, because each JPG save adds a little more compression damage while PNG never does.
- Are my photos uploaded?
- No. Decoding and encoding happen on your device inside the browser. Nothing is sent to a server, and the tool works offline.
- Does converting to PNG improve the quality?
- No. PNG faithfully preserves the pixels as they are in the JPG, including any existing compression artefacts. It stops further loss; it cannot undo previous loss.
- Can I make the background transparent?
- Not with this tool. JPG has no transparency, and the PNG will be fully opaque. You would need an editor to remove the background after converting.
- Why is the PNG bigger than the JPG?
- PNG is a lossless format and photos do not compress well losslessly. A 2 MB JPG commonly becomes a 10-15 MB PNG. This is normal.
- Are the camera details and location kept?
- No. The PNG is written from the picture’s pixels, so EXIF in the JPG, such as the camera model, the date and a GPS position, is not carried over.
- What are the free limits?
- The free plan allows 3 files per run, 20 MB per file and 5 runs per day. Pro removes these limits.
