Example
Example: a club logo with a transparent background, for a form that takes JPG only
The robotics club’s yearbook ad form accepts JPG only, and the logo is robotics-logo.png: 1000 × 1000 px, a round blue badge with a yellow gear and the words MAPLE RIDGE ROBOTICS, on a transparent background. Setting: JPG quality 0.9, the default.
- Drop robotics-logo.png and press Convert to JPG. The size stays 1000 × 1000; only the format changes, and the name becomes robotics-logo.jpg.
- JPG cannot store transparency, so the see-through area around the badge becomes solid white. On a white yearbook page that is exactly what was wanted.
- Zoom in on the small lettering. If the form also limits the file size, convert again at 0.8 and check the letters once more.
| What the PNG holds | Convert to JPG? | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Phone screenshot | Yes | Nothing is transparent, so only the file size changes |
| Logo on a transparent background, going on a white page | Yes | The background becomes white |
| Logo going on a coloured or photo background | No, keep the PNG | A white square would show around it |
| Photo saved as PNG | Yes | This is where the file shrinks most |
robotics-logo.jpg, 1000 × 1000, the badge on white, in the format the form takes. The PNG on your device stays as it was, transparency included.
How it works
- Drop .png files onto the box, or choose them from your device. Screenshots, exported designs and scans all work.
- Set the JPG quality. 0.9 for photos and print, 0.8 for email attachments and web forms with size limits.
- Press Convert to JPG. Transparent areas, if any, are flattened onto a white background.
- Download the JPG files one by one or as a ZIP.
Frequently asked questions
- Why convert PNG to JPG?
- PNG stores every pixel losslessly, which makes photos and full-screen screenshots huge. JPG compresses photographic content 5-10 times smaller and is required by many forms, job portals, marketplaces and print services that cap uploads at a few megabytes.
- What happens to the transparent background?
- JPG has no alpha channel, so transparent pixels are filled with white. Logos with transparent backgrounds are better kept as PNG or converted to WebP.
- Will text and sharp lines look blurry?
- JPG can introduce faint halos around high-contrast edges. At quality 0.9 they are hard to see; for screenshots of code or UI where crispness matters, PNG or WebP is the better format.
- Will the JPG be the same size in pixels?
- Yes. Each picture is redrawn at its own width and height, so a 1000 × 1000 PNG gives a 1000 × 1000 JPG; only the format and the file size change. To make it smaller in pixels as well, resize it first.
- Can I convert several PNGs at once?
- Yes. Drop them together and each comes back as its own JPG under the same name with .jpg, to download one by one or as a ZIP. The free plan takes 3 files a run.
- Are my images uploaded?
- No. Your browser decodes the PNG and encodes the JPG on your device. Nothing leaves your computer or phone, and the tool works offline.
- What are the free limits?
- The free plan allows 3 files per run, 20 MB per file and 5 runs per day. Pro removes these limits.
