Your files stay on your device

This tool runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored, and you can even turn off your internet connection before you start.

How it works

  1. Drop .heic or .heif files onto the box, or choose them from your device.
  2. On first use a small WebAssembly HEIC decoder is downloaded once. Later conversions run entirely on your device.
  3. There is nothing to tune: PNG is lossless, so every decoded pixel is stored exactly. The quality slider has no effect on PNG output.
  4. Press Convert to PNG and download the files separately or as a ZIP.

Frequently asked questions

When should I choose PNG instead of JPG for HEIC?
Choose PNG when you plan to edit the image further, paste it into a document or presentation, or when the picture is a screenshot, diagram or drawing with sharp edges and text. JPG would add compression artefacts on every save; PNG never does.
Are my files uploaded?
No. The HEIC file is decoded by a WebAssembly decoder in your browser and re-encoded as PNG on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.
Why is the PNG so much larger than the HEIC?
HEIC uses the HEVC video codec and typically compresses a photo to 1-3 MB. PNG stores pixels losslessly, so the same 12-megapixel photo can be 20-30 MB. For sharing photos, HEIC to JPG produces far smaller files.
Is transparency preserved?
Yes. HEIC images with an alpha channel, such as some screenshots and stickers, keep their transparency in PNG. JPG would fill it with white.
What are the free limits?
The free plan allows 3 files per run, 20 MB per file and 10 runs per day. Pro removes these limits.
