How it works
- Drop the video. MP4, MOV, WebM and anything else your browser can play works.
- Set where to start, if not at the beginning, and how often to take a frame. One a second suits a talk or a lecture; one every ten seconds suits a long recording you want an overview of.
- Choose the size and the format. The number is the longest side, so a clip filmed upright gets it as its height; it only ever shrinks, so Original size is the ceiling. JPG is right for photographic video; PNG is worth it for screen recordings, diagrams and anything with text in it.
- Press Extract frames. Download them one by one, or all at once. They are named after the video and numbered in order: meeting.mp4 gives meeting-001.jpg.
Frequently asked questions
- How many frames can I get?
- Sixty in one run, which keeps the download list usable and the browser's memory intact. With one frame every ten seconds that covers ten minutes of video. For a longer recording, either widen the spacing or set a start time and take the next stretch in a second run.
- Can I get the exact frame I want?
- Close to it: the browser lands within a frame or two of the moment asked for, which is as exact as seeking through a compressed video gets. If you need one precise frame, set the start a second or two before that moment, choose half-second spacing, and pick from the results.
- Why are my screen-recording frames blurry as JPG?
- Because JPG is built for photographs and smears hard edges, which is what text and interface lines are. Choose PNG for screen recordings, slides and diagrams: the files are larger but the text stays sharp.
- Which videos can it read?
- Whatever your browser can play, since it is your browser's decoder doing the reading. MP4 (H.264), WebM and MOV work everywhere; some HEVC phone recordings will not play in every browser, and cannot be read here either.
- Is my video uploaded?
- No. It is opened locally and read frame by frame on your device. Nothing is sent anywhere and there is no converter to download first.
- What are the free limits?
- The free plan handles one video per run at 150 MB and 10 runs per day. Pro removes these limits.
