An evening, the room lit by one lamp. Press Start camera and allow it: the front camera starts mirrored, like a mirror on the wall.
- Raise your right hand: it rises on the right of the screen, as in a real mirror, which is what you want for hair and make-up.
- Turn on Ring light: a white border lights your face. Press Full screen and it grows with the screen — about 76 px wide on a 1920 × 1080 monitor.
- The words on your T-shirt read backwards, as in any mirror. Untick Mirror and they read the right way round: that is how others see you, and how a video call shows you.
Mirror on to check yourself, Mirror off to see what others see. Turn the screen brightness up for the most light from the ring; Stop camera turns the camera off.
How it works
- Press Start camera and allow the camera: your picture appears mirrored, like a real mirror.
- Turn on Ring light for a bright white border that lights your face in a dim room, and press Full screen for a bigger mirror.
- Double-click or press Esc to leave full screen; Stop camera turns the camera off.
Frequently asked questions
- Is it a real mirror image?
- Yes — the picture is flipped left to right, as in a mirror. Turn Mirror off to see yourself as others see you, or as you appear in video calls.
- Does the ring light really help?
- It makes the screen edge bright white, which lights your face a little in a dark room — turn the screen brightness up for the full effect.
- Why is the picture a little soft?
- Laptop webcams and phone front cameras have small sensors; more light in the room gives a sharper, less grainy picture.
- Can I take a photo too?
- Yes — the photo booth takes a single photo or a strip of four with the same filters.
- Why is the back camera not mirrored?
- A back camera faces away from you, so its picture is shown as it is; the front camera starts mirrored. Switch camera swaps between them, and the Mirror box changes it either way.
- Will my screen go dark while I use it?
- The page asks the browser to keep the screen on while the mirror runs, and asks again when you come back to the tab. Where the browser does not allow that, the system’s own sleep setting applies.
- Is the camera recorded?
- No. The camera picture and the photos stay in your browser; nothing is recorded or saved.
