Frequently asked questions

Does this improve the quality?
No, and it is worth being clear about it. MP3 threw away part of the sound when it was made, and nothing brings that back. A WAV made from an MP3 is the same sound in a bigger container. What it is good for is feeding software that refuses compressed input.
Why would I want a WAV at all?
Editors, DAWs and hardware samplers often want uncompressed audio, partly because decoding MP3 on the fly costs time and partly because repeated re-encoding degrades. Burning an audio CD wants WAV too.
How big will it be?
About 10 MB a minute for stereo, whatever the MP3's bit rate was. A 4 MB MP3 of a four-minute song becomes roughly a 42 MB WAV.
What sample rate does it use?
By default, whatever your browser decodes at — which is your sound card's rate, usually 48 kHz, not the rate written in the MP3. Resampling does not change the speed or the pitch, only how many samples a second there are. If you are burning an audio CD, set it to 44.1 kHz, which is the rate a CD requires.
What are the free limits?
Three files per run, 20 MB per file and 10 runs a day. Pro removes all three.
