Nothing leaves your device
This tool runs entirely in your browser. What you type, play or record here stays on your device: nothing is uploaded or saved on a server.
How it works
- Press Play (or the space bar) and turn the volume to a comfortable, low level.
- Leave it running while you work or fall asleep.
- Set the sleep timer to stop it after 15 minutes to 8 hours, with a gentle fade.
Frequently asked questions
- What is brown noise?
- Random noise whose energy falls by 6 dB per octave, so the low frequencies dominate: a deep rumble rather than a hiss. It is named after Robert Brown and Brownian motion, not the colour.
- Does brown noise help with focus or ADHD?
- Many people with ADHD say a steady background sound helps them concentrate, and small studies suggest noise can help some listeners. The evidence is limited — try it and see whether it works for you.
- Does it keep playing with the screen off?
- On most phones and computers, yes: the sound keeps going in the background and the lock screen shows play and pause. Some phones pause web audio after a long time locked; plug the phone in and leave the page open for a full night.
- Is it safe for a baby?
- Keep it quiet and away from the cot: paediatric advice is to stay below about 50 dB (a quiet conversation) at the baby’s ear, with the speaker at least 2 metres away, and to use the sleep timer rather than playing all night.
- Does it use data or record anything?
- No. The noise is made in your browser as it plays — no audio file is downloaded and nothing is recorded.
