How it works
- Add the .xlsx workbook.
- Choose whether each sheet comes out as its own Excel file or as a CSV.
- Leave “skip empty sheets” on unless you want the blank ones too.
- Press split. Each file is named after the sheet it came from.
Frequently asked questions
- Do formulas survive?
- The values do. A formula that pointed at another sheet cannot follow the sheet into a file that no longer has the other one, so what you get is the numbers as they stood — which is usually what you wanted to send anyway.
- What about the formatting?
- Saving as Excel keeps the cell values and the layout; saving as CSV keeps only the text, because that is all a CSV can hold. Charts and images are not carried over either way.
- Will the CSV open properly in Excel?
- Yes. It is written as UTF-8 with a byte order mark, which is what stops Excel mangling accented and Japanese text.
- Is the workbook uploaded?
- No. It is read and rewritten in your browser.
